The POPmart Story!

The POPmart story begins thousands of years ago in a far off planet that was doomed to imminent destruction due to the exhaustion of all of its natural resources...

Whoa… wait a minute that was someone else’s story...... the real POPmart story begins in November of 2009 in the basement of the home of Brian Poehner who is a former entertainment retail executive and avid collector of music, as well as pop culture of all types, similar to the many awesome pop culture collectables you will find on the POPmart website.

Now for a little background....  Mr. Poehner began his career in the music business in 1973 working as a sales clerk at the coolest independent music store in Pittsburgh; "Flo's Records" while attending school.  This was the heyday of the music business when it was all about the love of the music, and given that he was also a fan and record collector with a massive collection he was easily bitten by the bug.

In 1978 Mr. Poehner moved to Atlanta, GA where he became a buyer for a small chain of 8 stores called "Turtles" which grew into a large chain of 350+ music and video stores with Mr. Poehner at the helm of their merchandising department.  In 1995, the company was sold to Blockbuster and became Blockbuster Music. At this time Mr. Poehner left the company in order to start a new retail venture with 3 other co-executives from Turtles.

Mr. Poehners next retail venture ultimately became a conglomerate of outlet stores called "Music For A Song" and also included some of the best loved independent music stores in the country including "Manifest", "Spinstreet" "Bart's", "Record & Tape Traders" and numerous others.  In the fall of 2009 and after 15 fantastic years operating a growing and thriving retail business the company finally succumbed to the pressures of the declining and self-destructive music business.  Sadly, the music business had transitioned from a thriving and exciting business that once attracted exceptional talent, 1000’s of retail partners, lifelong fans, and customers alike to an industry that now alienated just about everybody but, we won't go there as it's a sad and complicated tale.

After many years in physical retail Mr. Poehner decided to start POPmart in an effort to pursue his passion to provide customers with the a comprehensive selection of popular culture products, combined with exceptional customer service.  POPmart offers an incredible and diverse selection of original, quality, unique, and sometimes bizarre offerings across all categories in one convenient e-commerce store available to you 24/7.
